John
Maxwell has been doing collage work since the
mid-70’s while living in Marin County. He studied
photography and general art at the San Francisco Art
Institute and was an Art Director for Arts & Leisure
Publications in San Francisco. His major influence
as an artist was becoming friends with Kelley and
Mouse, two of the original five “psychedelic
artists” of the Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom days.
Seeing their personal collage work hanging in their houses led John to begin experimenting in the
collage field. He has had a number of successful
solo shows in Southern California and his work is
owned by many actors, film directors, production
designers, set decorators and just regular folk. He
continues to explore collage as a fine art always
looking to create the "perfect piece".
John works as
an on-set decorator on feature films based out of
Hollywood. His credits include "Pirates of the
Caribbean", "Seven", "Panic Room", "Jerry Maguire",
"Almost Famous", "As Good As It Gets", "The Nutty
Professor", "Stuart Little" , "Father of the Bride",
"Intolerabel Cruelty", "13 Days" and "Apollo 13", to
just list a few.
He lives with the love of his life, Rhona Gordon, a studio teacher on feature films and
television. They live in Sherman Oaks, California.
